16 Mar Slice of Life: Little Things #T4TMoments #SOL17
Recently we were visiting a school and saw this bulletin board.
It has been on our minds ever since!!! So often we hear that kids don’t want to read these “little books.” They want “big books” instead. How do they know? What makes them think of these as less engaging? Kids love lots of other little things: Micro Minis, Playmobile, doll houses, action figurines, Polly Pockets, and OYO mini sport figurines to name a few. They love little versions of things. So how did this negative message around “little books” develop?
We are not sure we know how it came to be, but this school gave us an idea about how to change it! We need to celebrate them, advertise them and bless them. This bulletin board does just that! What a message it sends!
We love lots of these “little books.” The go-carts, Copy- Cat, Dan The Flying Man, Wake up Dad, Bella and Rosie and Cat on the Mat never let us down. Joy Cowley is a great author of “little books” to study. Here is a Pinterest board with some of her titles.
Which “little books” do you love?
